το κομμάτι μου θυμίζει πάρα πολύ την φάση του "Looking For The Perfect Beat" (Afrika Bambaataa/Arthur Baker as producer) που βέβαια είναι αλλουνού παπά ευαγγέλιο.

ξερατε οτι στο οπισθόφυλλο του Fugazi (1984) των Marillion έχει ζωγραφισμένα κάτι βυνίλια που είχαν παραπέσει στο πάτωμα - τα εξώφυλλά τους δεν είναι φανταστικά, όπως το σουρρεάλ, γεμάτο συμβολισμούς δωμάτιο του Jester (δεν έχω ιδέα για την ιστορία πίσω απ'αυτά τα κάπως (σαν να είναι...) concept αλμπουμζ - δεν βγάζω και πολύ άκρη απο τους στίχους (που βαριέμαι να τους διαβάζω γιατί μου αποσπάνε την προσοχή απο την μουσική))

λοιπον, το ένα είναι το Pawn Hearts των Van Der Graaf Generator (το πιο progressive και πολύπλοκό τους, υποτίθεται, και λιγότερο αγαπητό σε μένα προσωπικά) και το άλλο είναι ......

χαιρομαι ιδιαίτερα γι'αυτό γιατί και εμένα είναι αν όχι αγαπημένα, τουλάχιστον πολύ respected αλμπουμζ.

επισης κάτι ενδιαφέρον που μαθαίνω απο το παραπάνω FAQ είναι ότι "fugazi" σαν λέξη είναι κάτι σαν το "foobar", χρησιμοποιείτω δηλαδή απο αμερικανούς κατά τον πόλεμο στο Βιετνάμ και σήμαινε γενικώς fucked up.

it's yesterday that i saw myself going upstairs to pay our rental, and presenting our hosts with a boiled lobster, half-laughing and half-embarassed myself because i was unsure whether the lobster was boiled in the right way. probably the fact of seeing a lobster was caused by me watching (or rather, trying to see) that woody allen movie (i'm voluptiously tempted to say "flick" instead of "movie", but i do not give in) - "annie hall", where, during their happy first days, the heroes (woody & diane keaton) run after some half-live lobsters that got out of a shopping bag.

today i saw many things; the things i remember more distinctly are me taking some shortcut to somewhere, long past sunset, in a neighbourhood vaguely known to myself (as it happens in dreams, you are sure you know the district etc. but then can't remeber or place it in your real life) - so - i took a shortcut, and it was raining mercilessly, and i wanted to get across the street, and there were poodles of water everywhere, and there was this big big poodle near the curb, as it usually happens in athens, and i went into it, and after some seconds was pushing forward literally to my waist in water, that black nightly murky kind of water. i didn't reach the turning i originally had planned to reach, and turned back, possibly scheming for another, less liquid shortcut to wherever i was hurrying. then i remember meeting a girl, a romantic acquaintance from long long ago, supposedly (it was noone i know or knew in real life, i think) - and i think - at some point we walked back from somewhere, the three of us (there was some friend too), and were deciding on what routes each of us would take to their homes. and during walking i think we took a small rest in a playground somewhere.

easy times. yearning times. tenseness. in-tensity. what happened?

είναι αύγουστος, και έτσι κάπως μου κόλλησε να δω την λίστα με τα 500 καλύτερα τραγούδια εβερ του περιοδικού Ρολλινγκ Στόουν - δεν ξέρω με ποια κριτήρια τα επέλεγαν, πάντως σίγουρα είναι κάτι αρκετά ενδιαφέρον, σαν μια συλλογή απο τραγούδια που σίγουρα είναι γνωστά και έχουν μια δικιά τους ιστορία, είτε παγκοσμίως, ή εντός Βορείου Αμερικής τουλάχιστον (που είναι και η ιδιαίτερη πατρίδα του συγκεκριμένου περιοδικού)

σήμερα όλη μέρα (κάνοντας και άλλα πράγματα βέβαια...) έφτασα απο 500 στο 433, είχε πλάκα, έμαθα ενα αριθμό απο ανουσιότητες, τρίβια, όπως ότι οι Σανγκρι-Λα'ς είναι λευκές, ποιοι είναι οι σολτ'ν'πέπα, ποσο επίμονος είναι ο Prince με τα κοπυράιτς του (έλεος.. μα τόση επιμονή - είναι ο μόνος που δεν βρήκα το Kiss του στο youtube.. θα έχει τα δίκια του ο άνθρωπος μάλλον - αλλά αυτός χάνει που δεν μαθαίνω τα κομμάτια του :Ρ), πόσο ωραία είναι η Carole King στα καλά της, ότι το Can't touch this τελικά (κρίνω) ότι δεν είναι κανονικά του MC Hammer - έκανε τόσο βαρύ σάμπλινγκ του Super freak του Rick James, που είναι σχεδόν το ίδιο κομμάτι με προσθήκη ραπ (και πολύ σοβαρό κοινωνικό μήνυμα βέβαια, σε αντιδιαστολή με το κομμάτι του James, που είναι και καλά ούλτρα σέξυ).. επιτέλους θυμήθηκα και το Under the boardwalk των Drifters που σαν μελωδία την ξέρουμε όλοι (σχεδόν) (μπορεί να γεννιόμαστε με αυτήν ήδη στο μυαλό), αλλά δεν ήξερα ότι το λέγαν' αυτοί.. (α - και αυτός ήταν και ο λόγος που έπεσα πάνω σε αυτή την λίστα με τα 500 - η χαρά των High-Fidelitάδων - γιατί εξ'αρχής άκουσα την διασκευή στο παραπάνω κομμάτι απο τους Tom Tom Club (ex-μέλη Talking Heads), και είδα ότι είναι ορίτζιναλ των Drifters..)... τι άλλο... είδα το You don't have to say you love me της Dusty S. και την αντιπάθησα (δεν ξέρω.. γι'αυτό το γλυψιματέξ μαλλί, για όλο το diva μπάρμπυ στυλ - ουτε η φωνή της μου άρεσε ποτέ (νομίζω) (λέτε να μετανιώσω ποτέ αυτές τις βλασφημίες που λέω;)), (ξανα)ανακάλυψα και το ωραίο Buddy Holly των Weezer, και τον μουστακαλή τραγουδιστή των Boston - μπας και είναι κρητικός και δεν μας το λέει;

ουφ. αυτά για το ρολλινγκ στόουν. έπεσε το μάτι μου όμως στον τουπακ, και διάβαζα και όλο το θληβερό σκηνικό που γίνεται (γινόταν - θα γίνεται ακόμα..) στις μεγαλουπόλεις της β.Αμερικής με τα γκανγκς και το χιπ-χοπ κάλτσουρ, ενημερώθηκα για τον θάνατο του (μετά απο 15 χρόνια), διάβασα για τους κριπς, και τους μπλαντζ, και διαφορα τέτοια πράγματα που θα με κινηγάνε σε κακά όνειρα.. και κατα τύχη ιδού δυο πραγματάκια, - αν και έχω βαρεθεί και συχαθεί την αντιπαραβολή του χθες με το σήμερα και those were the days και μπλα μπλα - δεν μετέχω σε αυτό το ντημπέητ (μιας και για ραπ μουσική ουτε καν μπορώ να εκφέρω λόγο - και τα δύο παρακάτω κομμάτια δεν είναι καν στο ίδιο στυλ/αισθητική) - αλλά το κομματάκι της ριάννα το διαφήμιζε και το είδα (ενημερώνομαι για τις επιτυχίες.. - καλά να'ναι το γιουτιούμπ) - και εκεινο του σνουπ ντογκ είναι κλασσικό βίντατζ (θεωρείται;) (με την κλασσική ατάκα γιου ντοντ λάβ μη, γιου τζαστ λάβ μαϊ ντόγκκιστάιλ).. πάντως διάβασα (και βλέπω) τα τραγούδια αυτά είχαν πολλές αναφορές σε όλο αυτό το γκάνγκστα κάλτσουρ κλπ..

τέλος πάντων... δεν είναι άσχημα και τα δύο πάντως. (πω ρε συ είμαι και πολύ ανοιχτομύαλος απόψε....)

the key phrase - "you have to have a little faith in people". isn't it a laugh. an big guy getting a lesson from a small girl, a guy who has eaten lots of shit, and made lots of shit by himself, learned and trained in human condition, getting this one reminder again. the simpleton, naive, almost laughable reminder. and it ends on that. but it's kind of wry, it's a sort of a normal "happy" moral ending. everyone judges by himself and by his heart. everyone unravels his own mess.

downtown music / yoko

i was tempted at last to read something about the New York No Wave movement (taken there by turns from reading something about the history of punk movement (term first used in Britain for music, but existing approximately as a loose cultural direction in America too at the time (see Ramones), although a bit differently, i think)

and discovered that Yoko Ono was a prominent figure in New York's cultural scene years before she met Lennon - i mean i am ashamed to confess that i kind of always dismissed her, because of Lennon, and such simplistic remarks as that she had a hand in dissolving the Beatles - and then there was this "walking on thin ice", which was a delightful song, and she is the woman John Lennon dedicated his "Woman" song to (i guess). but that's all i would know about her

No Wave article on wikipedia had a link to "downtown music" as a genre, or loose movement/style, closely related to experimental and noise music, encompassing also videoart concepts etc.

The scene the term describes began in 1960, when Yoko Ono—one of the Fluxus artists, at that time still seven years away from meeting John Lennon—opened her loft at 112 Chambers Street to be used as a noise music performance space for a series curated by La Monte Young and Richard Maxfield.

here's a piece by Nam June Paik, a Korean considered the first video artist, based around (and featuring) Ruyichi Sakamoto's piece of music (i guess)



and here's Yoko Ono's performance act known as "Cut Piece", which is described in Wikipedia's article on Yoko like this:

Ono was an explorer of conceptual art and performance art. An example of her performance art is "Cut Piece" (this instance of performance art is also known as a "happening"), first performed in 1964 at the Sogetsu Art Center in Tokyo. Cut Piece had one destructive verb as its instruction: "Cut." Ono executed the performance in Tokyo by walking on stage and casually kneeling on the floor in a draped garment. Audience members were requested to come on stage and begin cutting until she was naked. Cut Piece was one of Ono’s many opportunities to outwardly communicate her internal suffering through her art. Ono had originally been exposed to Jean-Paul Sartre's theories of existentialism in college, and in order to appease her own human suffering, Ono enlisted her viewers to complete her works of art in order to complete her identity as well. Besides a commentary on identity, Cut Piece was a commentary on the need for social unity and love. It was also a piece that touched on issues of gender and sexism as well as the greater, universal affliction of human suffering and loneliness.

i mean if you think about it, it is really strong, as a concept...

brought back flowers

well ehm i just somehow remembered again how dark and twisted and very strong those very early songs of cocteau twins were.. talking about around-Garlands era with their first bassist. and really, one of the interesting things about the band is that they also made lots of EPs, apart from the full-lengths, the majority of which contains original stuff not on the aforementioned full-lengths. although i knew CT since school, and know more or less all their albums (my favourite being Head Over Heels, of course), never heard "Peppermint Pig", which is a superb piece, on par with their best, very playful. and this one also blows my mind at the moment. i mean this combination of that voice, that driving nocturnal bass and the Guthrie's trademark layered guitars are really really good..

man, this Garlands sound is a killer...



well, and - i mean - somehow i remembered The Gathering (the vocal style at fault, perhaps, especially on Cocteau Twins' "Hitherto") and the charismatic singer that drew a lot of attention to them, finally in 1995 - talking about Anneke. went to youtube and have been browsing their videos, and it's a long long time since i listened to them, and well, felt like shedding a tear. my first encounter with gathering was while in school, along with many other melodic/atmospheric metal bands - but i can't say i'm a fan or anything like that - in fact i only listened to a couple of their albums, although they (i hear) put out a lot of worthwile albums later on - i can't even say that i adore these couple of albums (Mandylion & Nighttime Birds) - but certainly i can't find anything i would be able to compare the gathering of those two albums with. they create this special feeling and atmosphere - they have this passion and power lots of metal bands have, and anneke's voice gives much to that power and strength - and it's a really moving experience to watch her sing - because she smiles all the time, she smiles as if she was giving you the love and the passion that is in her voice. it's really moving... watch leaves' official video somewhere on youtube.



κονιάκ - παρανιάκ


actually i came upon a very very good compilation - don't agree with the choice of the name (dark side of disco vol.3) - it comprises mostly of early 80's tracks from the fringes of disco (somebody might call it post-disco) with a certain funky feel, certainly danceable and really entertaining and interesting, and most of all, not overplayed or hypish (not that the tracks that are overplayed or hypish are at fault by themselves, but it's one of the points that makes a compilation really interesting)

caribou

i look with wonderment at how 60's/garagey/psych yet very tight sounds the 2007 Caribou's album, called "Andorra". i only knew Caribou because of "Odessa", of course, a very evokative n atmospheric piece in itself.. but whole of his 2007 and 2010 output which i sample (taste and make click sounds with my tongue) now is just delightful. Caribou was Manitoba too, but that's long ago and i haven't gone there yet.



just some other pieces i remembered.. zobies because of that breathy Colin Blunstone way of singing, and Pink Floyd's see saw because of the psychedelic faerytale flowery proper escapist feel and those old synth psych violin sounds. oh well....

this one's got killer vinyl scratches i can't help but adore :P



i listen to the following song again now after a long time, and feel how i love it :) um. it's gorgeous. never knew what it was about :) just like swinging on a see-saw, among psychedelic patterns, green grass and.. whatever :P

didn't that sound curiously funnily clumsily poetic? perhaps i won't have to spend time writing senseless stuff for these here posts and employ google-translator on random text..




anyway, the main thing (that should make sense) that i wanted to say is that i discovered another feature article line in pitchfork.com, called "guest lists":



- where they call some of their favourite (and hot) artists, one per week, or so, and ask them a dozen questions, about their favorite modern music at the moment, the book they liked most lately etc. etc. - and actually it's a good good source of gathering and poking at curious stuff - i mean.. maybe it's all a part of the trendsetting.. for example many artists there like say that their fav band lately are these and these, who are actually good mates of ours.. but anyway.. why not?

so one of the first things i stumbled upon (apart from the fact that Zola Jesus (should i say that the name feels campy as hell :P) adores reading Philip K. Dick) is that one of OMD members (McClu..something - sorry i forget [such] a name) talked and talked about his preference of Robyn.. (me, i adore Robyn's "Cobrastyle", its gorgeous hipness (and hip-hopness, r'n'b-style rap etc.) and specifically Bloody Beetroots' remix which is much more dirty, punchy and dark - it actually blows up my mind!!!!)

so here's today's back 2 back thing. could never be more proper, although maybe musically two clips don't quite fit into each other (mostly due to the fact that putting this particular Kate's song near something else is like breaking some sacrament - it's really much more complex and deep then Robyn's take on "mine/not mine"), but i personally find many influences of Kate in Robyn's style anyway.

was listening to bel canto again today, somehow. if i could find all the pieces, i would make it one of "they come in three's" posts, but i'm not sure if i can. anyway, this bel canto's agassiz piece is.. it reminds me so much of something natively and naturally greek, or, at least, balkan, should i say? not sure which is which. but it made me search among Hatzidakis tracks I have - i didn't find something very much close to bel canto's piece, but i don't know - maybe you can understand what these pieces have in common.. maybe.. or well, i remembered some Kyriakos Sfetsas' tracks from the soundtrack of that intense and memorable "Paraggelia" movie. i can't quite identify why. maybe you can't too :) and i am at a loss here.



(i don't know for how much the above video will stay online, because it was identified as copyrighted) but well, anyway, bel canto are from somewhere in Scandinavia, i think, and they are kind of.. like Dead Can Dance, with those neo-classical/new-age/ethnic elements, but with more cheer and playfulness at times. yeah, i'd say they are less sombre, and that's why i like them, perhaps, but again, maybe not. agassiz reminded me of ubiqutous Cantara, Dead Can Dance's staple on-the-forehead piece - the second part of it

another piece i remembered was the one we heard on the 11th Jazz Festival in Technopolis, Athens, Greece, by some guys called Nils Berg Cinemascope (or a guy called Nils Berg, obviously) who employed some videos from youtube, allegedly, having cut, hacked and remixed them (both sound and video) - and playing along on sax (er, some kind of clarinet as a friend corrected me), contrabass and drums. actually they were interesting, and the last piece featured santouri (on video) - and it was such a delightful tune, and the video was edited in such a delightful way that you couldn't.. :) help smiling and watching and clapping in the end etc. - but i still can't find it on youtube. so be it...

another thing i remembered... is Hood's "Rural colours" and iLiKETRAiNS' "A rook house for Bobby" will be into my top 5 indie/alt/rather moody pieces with killer intense endings, if i were to make one (remembering High Fidelity :P)

it's like fifteen minutes now that i put myself to determine why exactly i can't get to grips with that Fujiya & Miyagi "knickerbocker" song. i mean. hell. i can't say that i really hate it. or that, as the greek saying goes, βγάζει μαλλιά η γλώσσα μου. but it's surely in the category of those songs many people seem to like, and i am at a loss to understand why exactly :P so here it goes, probably i found a reason. huh, well, who said we shouldn't overanalyze and think about things [a lot]? therefore, it's not really the song that is at fault, but its hipness, its pretty, sexy nonsense, whispered sexily again and again... and i don't know what else which lead to.. myself having those stupid words in my mind, vanilla, strawb'erry (yeeees, with the stress on the wrong syllable, which - now that i think about, makes it neither English, nor French :P), nickerbokerglory.. baaaaad, bad song. hip video :P


no, these are nits, but i don't know, i somehow remembered them. no, not because of ultimate non-hipness (probably they just were unlucky - as you never know when you become hip) - but because of this particular picture, which in the end of the day doesn't bear VERY BIG resemblance to the above shoot. but anyway :P just remembered it.


and well, i remembered knickerbocker in the first place because i fell by chance upon this song, by another band - which is SO much alike, in the way they sing this nonsense. but well, it's not 'bout knickers, vanilla strawberry whatever, but about sabrina - aspirina (WTF? :P) and ok, there's not just male sexy whisper, but male - female thing, which adds another measure of nonsense (because the two voices say different things, one reciting days of week (i think), the other telling stuff about aspirina) anyway. i like this one more. heh, maybe because it's not unjustly hip in my world, YET.



well. i should analyze all that. think about.. kind of.. what's my kraken problem? :P anyway.
and it was a nice day. did some work, had some inspiration, started to listen to some music, my interest gradually shifting more and more into the daydreaming phase. SO. ok. gone to do some wrok.

i don't know exactly why, but these three pieces go together (they just went) in my mind. the first reminds me very much of musical experiments of those musique concrete pioneers, those who did first ever sampling etc. by cutting and splicing and sticking back together tapes, acquiring that peculiar theatrical and maybe otherworldly mystical effect. the following somehow, structurally, i think, is build on the same philosophy of sampling to gain an atmospheric theatrical effect, rather than something musically beautiful (which happens anyway).. i somehow love this piece, with warm naive wording like "uncle albert plays the sax" ending abruptly, as if disappearing from the picture, and then appearing again, and that slightly detuned yellowish piano melody.. and that notorious french accent the majority of people find attractive makes "sax" sound like "sex", and "destruction" like "stretching", and you end up thinking that a song that makes reference to world war II (at least as far sax and destruction take you..), is about having a good time, i.e. having sex and streching :P (irrelevant, anyway)



which reminded me of the following - can't explain exactly why - there's the same note somewhere lingering, and the same disconnected voice sampling, but slightly darker (makes me think of resignation rather than soft nostalgia of the previous piece)



and finally this.. which is bouncy and not like the previous two pieces, but somehow the words that are said somewhere in between, towards the end, glue in with the rest of my thoughts and my feelings

so yea, this pulse and beat thing (rhymes with pull and bear) attracted my attention (and yes, it's really powerful) and i downloaded (yes) austra's album, and of course read its review on pitchfork which confronted me with kate bush comparisons :) well, for one thing, where did they find kate bush there?.. maybe there is a grain of truth there, which i am still trying to find. still the vocal delivery is so different - it reminds me more of the organ and other indie contemporaries - and yes, bat for lashes and something adjacent to goth was right in terms of the general style. but kate bush? :P still it was nice to hear that because i like kate bush immensely.
in general the album is really really nice, with all that electro spice, and driving rhythms and heartful (should i say heart-broken, or wait?) vocals. nice stuff.

and yeah of course wouldn't the other detail be there, the quote from wikipedia article, that katie (a maybe that's where kate comparisons sprang from), the singer and the leader, identifies herself as queer.

the word queer always brings to my mind that passage, or a scene (as it's a movie and not a book) from "papillon", with that guy saying...

have been lis'nin to a compilation album called "808 Attack", which carried this friendly subtitle: "featuring Roland and his mates" :P
well and so i went and read this article about Roland TR-808, soft (wanted to say "sort of") ubiquitous vintage 80's drum machine used in many low (and not so low)-budget music, including early hip-hop and electro dance.. btw here's a link to a virtual VSTi emulating the real thing.

i mean, look how this "simple" and "unlifelike" sounding drum machine shaped the sound of 80's and early nineties... and one of the first artists to use TR-808 on his records was of course! Ryuichi Sakamoto (i hear) (1000 knives)

here's one tune i liked greatly from the 808 attack compilation, and its a cover, remix or who knows what of another YMO/Sakamoto number, Riot in Lagos.



proponents of 90's Detroit electro/techno (btw they all widely used tr-808) - Dopplereffekt, Drexciya, Aux 88, Underground Resistance(UR), Juan Atkins (the father), black musicians most of them.
i think i hear the likes of tr-808 even on στερεο νοβα albums..

watching Valerie Collective's blog (didn't make my heart stop or something, it's mainly on french, with bad english translations of each text, but frequent playlists) came upon this Parallels/Kontravoid playlist - which boasted proto-industrial influences, and indeed there was this great track from the first years of front242 - their first album "geometry" (1982) is quite interesting - not as mechanical and rhythmic as for instance DAF, but containing more interesting sounds and variety. they were milder there, the way first industrial acts were, not having discovered yet that harsh vocal delivery and violent rhythms - rhythmic but not violent.. anyway. i talk too much. i adore the below clip :) because of the foot stomping and the constant movement of their bodies- in particular the drummer and the general setting reminds me of the opening scene of that russian cult movie called "ASSA"



then i stumbled upon japanese telecom again and found out they are into detroit electro scene, which is kind of remarkable, because so are dopplereffekt, and so are cybotron that i stumbled upon a month ago while searching for vintage electro pieces to play. juan atkins of cybotron is sometimes called the godfather of techno, and there is a nice article on wikipedia about Detroit techno, its connection with Chicago house (actually techno was a word coined from one of the Cybotron songs, because they were searching for a term to characterize this music and market it in Europe as something different to house music, and house was something from "warehouse" :) or something like that) and its artists. anyway. take this here piece from aux 88.



detroit techno (because techno as it is became known in Europe is something very different, more of a marketing phenomenon, that's what i get from the readings...) is something quite darker and more industrial-sounding than house music, although well, these two kinds co-existed, and sprang probably from the same roots (disco & funk) - they also mention that the fact that Detroit was an industrial city (automobile factories), which got to know a sudden urban decline at some point influenced this "dark" direction in music - i can see a parallel with, for example, UK's Sheffield, which was also industrial city, that gave birth to respected acts like Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire, Human League.

προσπαθώ να σκεφθώ κάποια πράγματα με τα οποία ας πούμε έφυγε η μέρα, θυμάμαι ότι περπατούσα, έκανα συναλλαγές, εμφανισιακές επεμβάσεις, σκηνές όπως εισητήρια μπζτ στο μηχάνημα ακύρωσης, ο ήχος των κερμάτων, όπως και η αφή τους στην τσέπη μου, η τάση να τα χαλάσω, που πλέον δεν με ικανοποιεί, γιατί ξέρω πως αυτά που θα πάρω επι της ουσίας δεν μου χρειάζονται, και αυτά που χρειάζομαι βαριέμαι να πηγαίνω να τα ψωνίζω (να τα διαλέγω κυρίως) μόνος μου.

θυμάμαι που μπήκα στον ε για το βιβλίο (εεεε!!) και ψιλοκοίταγα τα ράφια στην αγγλόφωνη λογοτεχνία, science fiction & contemporary fiction, και άκουγα τον ήχο που κάνουν τα πόδια καθώς περπατάς στο ξύλινο πάτωμα καλυμμένο με το γκρι πλαστικό του - όλα τα βιβλιοπωλεία έχουν μια μαγία ρε παιδί μου, αξίζει να πας και να μην θέλεις να πάρεις κάτι - κυρίως τα μεγάλα (δυστυχώς ίσως?) που γενικά δεν ασχολείται κανένας μαζί σου και μπορείς να κάθεσαι πολύ ώρα - είδα κάποια ενδιαφέροντα, όπως ενα της Margaret Atwood, ψιλοκλασσική επιστ. φαντασία αλλά απ'αυτά τα ουτοπικιστικά - που πλέον θεωρούνται πιο πολύ κλασσική λογοτεχνία παρά επιστ. φαντασία - γενικά αυτή η Penguin εβγαλε αυτή την σειρά την Decades που ξερωγώ έχουν πολύ προοδευτικά βιβλία - όπως εκείνο που είχα πάρει και θα έχω να το λέω για καιρό - δεν άντεξα να το διαβάσω, partly γιατί βαρέθηκα και πάρτλυ γιατί δεν πολυάντεχα - ενα της Angela Carter... surrealist fiction και έτσι.

αλλά και εκεί τέλος πάντων συνειδητοποίησα πως έχω τόσα πολλά βιβλία σπίτι μου να διαβάσω που είναι βλακεία να πάρω άλλο - τώρα επιτέλους τελείωσα με τον γολγοθά του Good Omens του Pratchett/Gaiman - και ξεκίνησα το Neuromancer του William Gibson, ενα βιβλίο που το είχα διαβάσει στα ελληνικά (απο τα πράγματα που χρωστάω στον Γιώργο - τους Γκίμπσον και Φίλιπ Ντικ - στον Μπάρροουζ δεν κατάφερε να με μυήσει - και τον Πράτσετ αλλά εντάξει δεν τον θαυμάζω και τρελά τρελά - αν και έχω διαβάσει μπόλικα) - τεσπα... το Neuromancer είναι, λένε, απο τα βιβλία που ξεκίνησαν, ή ώθησαν, το είδος της cyberpunk επιστ. φαντασίας (80's), και έδωσαν έμπνευση σε μεταγενέστερες ταινίες όπως το Matrix - σαν αισθητική το "πανκ" στην επιστ. φαντασία θεωρώ πως υπήρχε απο πιο παλιά, π.χ. στα μυθιστορήματα του Philip K. Dick φαίνεται πολύ - θέλει ώρα να εξηγήσω γιατί το αισθάνομαι έτσι, και μάλλον δεν είναι και ανάγκη........

και κατα βάθος απλώς γράφω κάτι για να γεμίσει η ώρα - σκέφτομαι να παω να δω καμια ταινία στο ντι-βι-ντι - αλλα κάπως δεν μου έρχεται να ξεκολλήσω απο τον υπολογιστή, έβαλα και παίζει κάτι στα ακουστικά (μάθημα ανάγνωσης σήμερα) - και μάλλον θα το κάνω αυτό με την ταινία.

αλλά δεν ξέρω αν θέλω να δω μια που απλά να με διασκεδάσει, ή απο εκείνες που θα με κάνει να κλάψω - έχουμε την ευχέρεια της επιλογής - απλώς τελευταία όσες ταινίες δοκίμασα να δω τις έκλεινα ή τις άλλαζα μετα απο 5-10 πρώτα λεπτά. τεσπά, θα δω - το πολύ πολύ να κοιμηθώ.

και είναι τρίτη φορά που προσπαθώ να κατεβάσω μια συλλογή με κάτι σοβιετικά τραγούδια...
και απλώς σκέφτομαι γιατί τα γράφω αυτά, και αν θα μετανιώσω κάποια στιγμή.. και σε ποιόν μιλάω συγκεκριμένα.. και νομίζω πως αλλάζω.. και νομίζω πως πλέον δεν έχουν νόημα κάτι τέτοια ποστ - φάση dear diary, και το τι έκανα - μόνο σε πολύ συγκεκριμένες στιγμές.. νομίζω πως μοιάζουν παιδικές...

για κάποιο λόγο πλέον αισθάνομαι ότι όσο λιγότερο πεις στον έξω κόσμο που δεν τον ξέρεις τόσο το καλύτερο, για να μην τρέφεις ελπίδες πως μιλάς σε κάποιον - και αν θες να μιλήσεις σε κάποιον - να μιλήσεις σε αυτόν κατ'ιδίαν - τα υπόλοιπα μπορείς να τα πεις και εδώ - απλά πράγματα, προτασούλες, βιντεάκια... νομίζω πως το τουίτερ σε αυτό ωθήθηκε - πως πλέον δεν έχει νόημα να κάνεις share μεγάλα πράγματα και αναλύσεις κ λλκίες - αμα θες να το κάνεις, βγάλε κανένα βιβλίο βρε αδερφέ..

νομίζω πως ακολουθώ ενα νήμα σκέψεις που δεν θέλω να το ακολουθήσω.

ήθελα να ποστάρω κάποια άλλα κομμάτια των death in june, η πρώτη μου ανάμνηση για τους οποίους νομίζω πως είναι απο το μαγαζάκι το alchemy gothic στην θεμιστοκλέους που έχει αλλάξει ονόματα απο τότε (όχι όμως τον ιδιοκτήτη νομίζω - αν και έχω χάσει πλήρως το ενδιαφέρον μου για αυτά τα πράγματα, όχι ότι τον είχα ποτέ) - νομίζω πως είχα μπει μια φορά ψάχνοντας για δαχτυλίδι ίσως, ή καμία νεράιδα, γιατί τότε για κάποιο λόγο είχα μια ιστερία για νεραίδες - νομίζω - (εκτός και αν το φτιάχνω τώρα στο μυαλό μου - γιατί πρέπει να έχουν περάσει 10 χρόνια απο τότε) και έπαιζε αυτή την μουσική με strumming κιθάρες και ήρεμη ήρεμη yet very eerie φωνή - και πρέπει να ήταν οι dij, αν και υπάρχουν και άλλοι πολλοί που είναι πολύ επιρεασμένοι απο δαύτους//..

πέρα απο τα γνωστά κομμάτια τους που είναι σε αυτό το θανατερό (αν και φοβάμαι να το ονομάζω έτσι) στυλάκι (death is the martyr of beauty, little black angel, red clouds of holocaust, luther's army, hullo angel, fall apart..) - θα ήθελα να επισημάνω κάτι άλλα που μου άρεσαν για κάποιο λόγο - είχα ορέξεις τελευταία και τους ξαναάκουγα.. το come before christ and murder love (μ'αρέσει πολύ ο τίτλος) μ'αρέσει γι'αυτό το μονότονο drumming, και το the calling mkII έχει ενα φοβερό driving ρυθμό που με κολλάει στον τοίχο - μου θυμίζει φάσεις DAF, στανταρ θα είναι επιρεασμένο απο τέτοια - λένε πως είναι το μόνο άλμπουμ των κυρίων στο οποίο (και καλά) ήρθανε κοντά έως και στην dance μουσική (ίσως morbid dance σκινή, αν υπήρχε κάτι τέτοιο - τεσπα, goth..)... αυτά που λέτε, τα πρώτα δύο τους άλμπουμ είναι post-punk, αυτό εδώ είναι κάτι ενδιάμεσο, και τα επόμενα είναι όλο και πιο πολύ φάση "αποκαλυπτικό folk".. με τραβάνε τα παλιά τους, αλλά γενικά τους έχω μια συμπάθεια, όπως και στους current '93 (είναι ο κύριος ομιλητής στο daedalus rising πιο πάνω), και φυσικά στους sol invictus (που ήταν ενα απο τα τρια μέλη των dij στα πρώτα 2 άλμπουμ νομίζω)

νιώθω μια μικρή ενοχή γιατί γενικά πολλοί κατηγορούν αυτά τα συγκροτήματα για σχέσεις με ακροδεξιά, που σε μερικές περιπτώσεις έχουν βάση, ή είχαν - αλλά τι σημασία έχει, όταν μιλάμε για μουσική εδωπέρα, οπότε δεν φαμιέται;... (αυτό το αστείο μου έρχεται στο μυαλό πάντα - και το λέγαμε με ενα παλικάρι κάποια στιγμή - ότι οι death in june πριν καταπιαστούν με fascist imagery έπαιζαν στους ultra αριστερούς αναρχοπάνκιδες crisis, - και μια αναλογία που δεν ισχύει γιατί το αποκαλυπτικό folk απο την μια και το συγκεκριμένο συγκρότημα απο την άλλη, απο μόνα τους δεν επικροτούν τον φασισμό (συνήθως) - οτι ο μουσολίνι πριν καταπιαστεί με τον φασισμό... γενικά ήταν ιδιαίτερα δραστήριος σοσιαλιστής.. αλλά τέλος πάντων, δεν σκαμπάζω εγώ απο αυτά, και δεν τρελλένομαι πολύ να μπω σε πιο βαθιά νερά.. - ασε που στο ίντερνετ γενικότερα κυκλοφορεί ενα σορό συζητήσεις διαμάχες μέχρι και researches για τα στοιχεία που θα ενοχοποιούσαν τους dij και διάφορα άλλα συγκροτήματα του κύκλου τους σαν φασίστες - εμένα απο την στιγμή που κρίνω την μουσική τους το background δεν με νοιάζει, ή τουλάχιστον θα ήθελα να μην με νοιάζει - για τον ίδιο λόγο που δεν θα άντεχα "να μην ακούσω" απίστευτη και γαμάτη μουσική επειδή αυτός που την έγραψε είναι σκατοχαρακτήρας)



yes!! θυμήθηκα τι μου θυμίζει τόσο πολύ αυτό το πάνω... μου θυμίζει το all cats are grey των φίλτατων cure... και το drumming και τα mournful synths

dos for loop

a useful thing if you want to copy a multitude of files from all subdirectories in a certain directory to the root of this directory would be to run the following compound command from a DOS shell (it certainly works on Windows XP SP3):

for /d %i in (*) do @copy /Y %i\*.* .

certainly an improvement, as you wince each time you see how little your common DOS prompt offers you in terms of scriptability, comparing to your common UNIX/Linux shell.

/d switch invokes FOR on directories instead of files
* could be any wildcard that you would use with a dir command
@ does something which i can't really explain - as far as i could see it runs the copy command smoothly without returning to command prompt at the end of each for loop
/Y switch forces overwrite (suppresses user prompt), in case of files with identical names

note that in batch files all %i should be written as %%i as pointed out (among other things) here

now, a nice quick n dirty deployment scheme for deploying your new builds to multiple workstations on the same domain would be:
- to have a directory on c that would contain only the files to be copied
- to have a batch file that would run the following:


for %%i in (*.exe *.dll *.xml) do @copy /Y %%i "\\workstation1\c$\workdir"
for %%i in (*.exe *.dll *.xml) do @copy /Y %%i "\\workstation2\c$\workdir"

was rimembering about the last time i went to london (saw dear londoners, dear brick an' mortar), about that trendy historical indie record shop by the name of rough trade - didn't know about dubstep or whatever then - and there was this interesting tune playing on the speakers there, and i asked what it was, and i think it was darkstar, or skream, and the record said dubstep, and i thought to mesself, dubstep? used to think of dubstep as something quite reggaey and dubby and smokey, and maybe that's what it is, in the end, but that record was quite ambientish and melancholic and maybe poppy, in the sense of being accessible. well and so now i remembered this, and thought to search for darkstar and found link to the 2009 Pitchfork tracks of the year and got happy :P seeing all those record covers and words, .. gimme more lists and make me a happy man..

μερικά μου mp3 είναι μαμημένα.
κάποια τα είχα κάνει rip με κάποιο ελαττωματικό πρόγραμμα, κάποια τα είχα κατεβάσει, και δεν τα είχα ακούσει απο τότε, κλπ.
η κατάσταση γίνεται αστεία (όπως τώρα) έως και eerie, όταν συμβαίνουν πράγματα όπως το να ακούς επιτέλους (γιατί σου ήρθε όρεξη) το Operation:Mindcrime, και να ξαναθυμίζεις στον εαυτό σου πόσο μαμάτος δίσκος είναι, και την στιγμή που μπαίνει το ομόνυμο κομμάτι (εκεί που τα πράγματα έχουν ζεσταθεί με το Revolution calling, και μπαίνουμε σιγά σιγά στο ζουμί της υπόθεσης) ξαφνικά να κόβεται και να αρχίζει να ξεχειλίζει απο τα ακουστικά ο Επιτάφιος του Γιάννη Ρίτσου σε εκτέλεση Νάνας Μούσχουρη παρακαλώ, με τα μπουζούκια, τις κιθάρες και τα πιάνα του, καθόλα όμορφο και ωραίο κομμάτι, αλλά... ... παντελώς ακυρο.. προσπάθησα να θυμηθώ πως στο καλό έγινε αυτό το πράγμα - δηλ. ουτε καν δεν έχω τέτοιο δίσκο να γινόταν κανένα τέτοιο μπέρδεμα (μου έχει τύχει να ριπάρω δυο cd στην σειρά και να έχουν μπερδευτεί..)

εντωμεταξύ τελειώνω σιγά σιγά το καταραμένο Good Omens του Pratchett/Gaiman, το οποίο το διαβάζω απο πριν τα Χριστούγεννα και όλο δεν μπορώ να το τελειώσω. πραγματικά κάτι έχει αυτό το βιβλίο :Ρ ε λοιπόν εκει ενας δαίμονας, ο Crowley, οδηγούσε μια αντίκα Bentley με ενα κασσετόφωνο, όπου ότι και να έβαζε, be it κλασσική μουσική ή ροκ, μονίμως μετατρεπόταν σε τραγούδια των Queen (δεν ξέρω πως τους ήρθε να διαλέξουν την βασίλισσα) - όταν δεν το χρησιμοποιούσαν το κασσετόφωνο οι υπόγειες δυνάμεις για να επικοινωνήσουν μαζί του

:) δεν θέλω κάποια στιγμή να αρχίζουν να μετατρέπονται ότι ακούω σε Νάνα Μούσχουρη, έλεος!!! :Ρ αλλά εντάξει, δεν είμαι δαίμονας, ούτε άγγελος.. τι να πω. τα παιχνίδια της τύχης (μπλαμπλα νου μόρ ουόρντζ)

πόσο μου την σπάνε τα .. τα κάστομ στρήμινγκ όντιο κοντρολς σε μερικές σελίδες που εχουν κρυμμένο ή ΔΕΝ έχουν βόλιουμ κοντρόλ - πρέπει να εχω πάθει aural σοκ κανένα δύο φορές ήδη. οπως επίσης μου την σπάει οταν πρέπει να αλλάζεις συχνά την γλώσσα και έχει συνηθίσει τόσο πολύ το Alt+Shift που βαριέσαι να το αλλάξεις (μάλλον πρέπει να το αλλάξω και όπως toys wise guys να το κάνω Ctrl+Shift) και κάθε φορά που δεν το πατάς συγχρονισμένα φεύγει το φοκους στο μενού του browser, και γίνονται μετά διάφορα παλαβά αμα δεν το προσέξεις..

ντάξει. γκρίνιαξα. τώρα είμαι κομπλέ.

still melting some with the HEALTH boys, whose two (radically) remixed albums (DISCO & DISCO2) are quite interesting because the pieces are so tampered with that you barely recognize the originals (really, the original pieces are noise rock or something, very loudish, jagged, post-punky or even post-rockish, and the remixes are really modern electro something, from dancey to experimental, but quite nice-sounding, almost ear-candy some of them - but i adore them..) - the cheesy rap thing in the beginning of the following track wasn't on DISCO 2 album - wish it wasn't here too :)



to all yea junior boys admirers :) (don't know why remembered junior boys - some kind of feeling?) - this frankmusik guy - didn't like much his original pieces, but these acid girls must be a treat, just sort of two guys into blogging and djing who started putting out remixes recently - and this one contains a killer killer refrain part.... (refrain from refrain :P)



this one is so daft punkish (as the above pieces in some way, too) :P love it love it... it so sunnyish...
